Abstract: The conference was proudly supported by the Biochemical Society, the British Pharmacological Society (BPS), and the Physiological Society, whose contributions made it possible to deliver a high-impact event. Their support covered essential logistics, speaker travel, materials, and accessibility, creating an inclusive space for meaningful engagement. The 2025 Early Career Life Scientists (ECLS) Conference convened 72 passionate early-career researchers from institutions across Nigeria for 2 days of scientific exchange, skills development, and collaborative engagement at Kaduna State University. Centered on the theme “Translational Cancer Research: Bridging the Gap from Bench to Bedside,” the event served as a critical platform to tackle Nigeria’s growing cancer burden through research aimed at real-world application, alongside dialogue and mentorship opportunities. While the core planning was led by the local organizing team, composed entirely of early-career researchers and led by Kenneth Bitrus David, we were privileged to work closely with Katie Keizner (Events Organiser) and Lauren Flitcroft (Conference and Events Manager) at the Biochemical Society. Alongside representatives from the BPS and the Physiological Society, they provided expert guidance and support throughout the planning process. Their mentorship and responsiveness were instrumental in shaping a successful and well-coordinated event.Day 1 featured a grant writing workshop by Prof. Simeon Omale and a practical session on bioinformatics in cancer research led by Dr. Mohammed Tahir (Precision Biomedicals Ltd.). The day closed with a networking dinner and career exhibition, where Dr. Olalekan Ayuba delivered an energizing talk on diverse career pathways in the life sciences.Day 2 opened with a keynote by Prof. Tajudeen Olasinde on the future of translational cancer research in Nigeria. Plenary lectures from Prof. Lyndy McGaw (University of Pretoria), Prof. Helen Kwanashie, and Dr. Asma’u Bashir explored the roles of ethnomedicine, professional development, and targeted therapies. Breakout sessions on Curriculum vitae(CV) writing and science communication rounded off the program, and outstanding oral and poster presentations were recognized with awards.Throughout the event, delegates were introduced to membership opportunities with the Biochemical Society. This aimed at boosting the society’s representation from Nigeria. The ECLS 2025 Conference has not only strengthened the local research ecosystem but also encouraged long-term collaborations and empowered a new generation of scientists. We are deeply grateful to all our supporters, especially the Biochemical Society, for making this vision a reality.Kenneth Bitrus David ([email protected]) Chair, ECLS 2025 Planning Committee International Ambassador, Biochemical Society (KASU)We gratefully acknowledge the support of the Biochemical Society, British Pharmacological Society (BPS), and the Physiological Society. Special thanks to the ECLS Local Planning Committees and the Management of Kaduna State University for their invaluable contributions to the success of this event.
