Type: article
Abstract: It is crucial to comprehend the wear attributes linked with these restorative materials to ensure the prolonged efficacy of dental treatments for children and the maintenance of occlusal harmony.7 IntroductIonPrimary teeth play a pivotal role in the oral health of children by acting as predecessors for permanent teeth and contributing to proper speech development, nutrition through effective chewing, and enhancement of self-esteem through esthetics.1 Moreover, they play a significant part in maintaining the structural integrity of the dental arch and ensuring the accurate alignment of permanent teeth. 2 Early childhood caries remains a global public health issue. In the realm of pediatric dentistry, severe caries, which results in extensive damage to the tooth structure, is frequently observed and negatively impacts children's well-being.3 The premature loss or damage of primary teeth can initiate a series of dental complications.Particularly, the loss of space is a notable outcome that can result in permanent teeth erupting misaligned or causing malocclusion.4 This misalignment may necessitate orthodontic interventions in later stages of life.Furthermore, premature loss can impede speech development, nutrition due to compromised chewing, and psychosocial aspects like self-esteem and social interactions.4 The restoration of severely damaged primary teeth is crucial for maintaining healthy primary dentition.5 Using stainless steel crowns (SSCs), zirconia crowns, and newer materials like BioFLX® is common in cases of extensive decay or damage in primary teeth for full-coverage restorations.6 Each of these materials exhibits distinct mechanical properties that have the potential to impact the level of wear experienced by natural teeth in opposition.
