Bullying and Cyberbullying Experienced by College Students with Disabilities: Data from the ACHA-NCHA III Survey Results
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Bullying may be associated with lower achievement in higher education among students with disabilities (SWD) as compared with their peers without disabilities (SWOD). We conducted secondary data analysis of ACHA-NCHA III survey data from 55,824 respondents to examine the risk of bullying, cyberbullying, and negative impact on academic performance among college SWD and SWOD. SWD were nearly 2x more likely to report bullying and cyberbullying, 1.5x more likely to report high distress in response to victimization, and 1.6-1.7x more likely to report negative impact on academic performance as a result of victimization than SWOD. Stakeholders in higher education should increase efforts to support SWD in both classroom and co-curricular settings on college campuses.
