Enhancing Operational Efficiency Through 5S Implementation: A Comprehensive Study at Shri Sadhna Industries

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Manufacturing industries face increasing pressure to improve operational efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance workplace safety. The 5S methodology, originating from Japanese lean manufacturing principles, provides a systematic approach to workplace organization and process improvement. This study investigates the implementation of 5S methodology at Shri Sadhna Industries, Khurai, to evaluate its impact on productivity, workplace organization, safety, and overall operational efficiency.A comprehensive 12-week implementation study was conducted using a mixed-methods approach.Pre-implementation assessments were performed using standardized 5S audit checklists, productivity measurements, and workplace safety evaluations. The 5S methodology (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) was systematically implemented across three production departments.Post-implementation data was collected over an 8-week period to assess improvements. The implementation resulted in significant improvements: production efficiency increased from 68.5% to 89.2% (30.2% improvement), workplace organization scores improved from 2.1 to 4.3 out of 5.0 (104% improvement), tool search time reduced from 8.5 minutes to 2.3 minutes (73% reduction), and workplace accidents decreased by 85%.Space utilization improved by 22%, and employee satisfaction scores increased from 3.2 to 4.6 out of 5.0.The systematic implementation of 5S methodology at Shri Sadhna Industries demonstrated substantial improvements in operational efficiency, workplace safety, and employee morale. The study validates 5S as an effective tool for process improvement in small-to-medium manufacturing enterprises in the Indian context.
