Deciphering Agni through biophoton science: An integrative approach to metabolism and homeostasis
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: BACKGROUND: Ayurveda describes Agni as the force governing digestion, metabolism, and systemic balance. Modern bio photonics includes the study of ultra-weak photon emissions (UPEs) from living cells, which draws parallels with Agni’s role in bioenergetic regulation. The Agni, being a multidimensional entity as per Ayurveda, is a pivotal part of pathophysiological processes in the body. This is an attempt to draw a parallel of biophoton physiology with the function of Agni as mentioned in Ayurveda. OBJECTIVE: This study examines correlations between Agni and biophotons in regulating metabolism, physiological coherence, homeostasis, and other related physiological functions like neurocognition. METHODS: A narrative conceptual synthesis, along with parallel comparative analysis of Ayurveda texts and contemporary research on biophotons, was conducted. The hierarchy of Agni , namely Jatharagni (component of Agni dealing with digestion), Dhatvagni (component of Agni dealing with tissue metabolism), and Bhutagni (component of Agni dealing with elemental digestion) was compared with biophoton roles in metabolism, oxidative stress, and neural activity based on the recent researches in the field. RESULTS: Both Agni and biophotons are involved in the regulation of metabolic efficiency, energy conversion, and homeostasis. Disruptions in Agni parallel oxidative stress and altered biophoton emissions. Ayurveda interventions such as Deepana-Pachana (improving appetite) and Rasayana (immunomodulatory activity), may enhance biophotonic coherence, aiding homeostasis and cognition. CONCLUSION: Linking Agni with biophoton science offers new insights into metabolism and health. Integrating Ayurveda with biophoton-based tools may foster quantum diagnostic models and advance holistic healthcare. However, further research is necessary to substantiate and validate the conceptual parallels dealt with in the present study.
