Suppression of Inter-Pulse Amplified Spontaneous Emission in High Peak Power Amplifier Based on an Er-Yb Doped Fiber

Abstract: High-power nanosecond laser sources emitting at a wavelength of$\sim 1.5\mu \mathrm{m}$are an ongoing area of research due to their potential applications in various fields including, remote sensing, light detection, topographic mapping, wind sensing [1], as well as in laser processing of silicon [2]. However, scaling up the peak power of a monolithic fiber laser presents challenges, primarily due to substantial nonlinear effects that occur when high-intensity light propagates through all-fiber amplifiers. One of the main limitations of power scaling is amplified spontaneous emission (ASE), which becomes significant or even dominates at low repetition rates and short pulse durations.
