Efficacy and safety of 99mTc-Trodat-1 in the early and differential diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Parkinson's disease is the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder in the population, second only to Alzheimer's disease. The condition manifests globally, without distinction of gender, class, or race, affecting approximately 1% of the population over 60. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of 99mTc-Trodat-1 in the early and differential diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. It is a qualitative literature review based on scientific articles available in the Virtual Health Library (BVS), SciELO, and PubMed databases. Considering the high rate of errors (approximately 47% by qualified professionals) in the initial diagnosis through clinical analysis, the development of a gold standard test for the early diagnosis of Parkinson's disease would be extremely important, since early treatment for this pathology would slow the progression of motor and pre-motor symptoms and ensure a better quality of life for patients with this condition.
