Abstract: The integration of alternative renewable energy sources into the power grid, which includes the connection and dimensioning of generation power plants, is formulated as a linear optimization problem to be solved by mixed-integer linear programming. The formulation depends on the generation potential, resulting from a previous measurement of wind speed and solar irradiance specific to each location. The way the problem is modeled differs from others found in the literature in terms of: i) including the costs of connecting new generation power plants to the grid; ii) addresses the spatial aggregation constraint of hybrid generation, i.e., wind-solar. The proposal is presented through an application to a section of a real system located in northeastern Brazil, with the objective of minimizing the investment cost of hybrid generation power plants, as well as considering the value of the return on investment.
