Figural Corinthian Capitals in Syria During the Roman Period

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study explores Corinthian capitals in Syria, categorizing them as deities (as Bacchus, Minerva, and Faunus), animals (particularly eagles), masks, and human figures showcasing a transition from Hellenistic to Roman influences. Despite dating challenges, a comprehensive assessment places these capitals in the late 2nd to early 3rd century AD, aligning with a period of architectural activity in the region.
