Olympic medal analysis and prediction

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: This study establishes a mathematical prediction framework to forecast medal distributions in future Olympic Games, with specific emphasis on the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. Leveraging historical performance data, we comprehensively analyzed key determinants of medal outcomes: event category dynamics, athlete-cohort capabilities, host nation privileges, and the "Great Coach Effect." The research involves five key dimensions: real-time medal prediction, the evolution of the competition pattern, the identification of emerging medal winners, sports special impact assessment and coach effectiveness quantification. Through the combination of multidimensional data analysis and prediction modeling, the framework provides operational insights for the strategic planning, targeted resource deployment and sustainable performance improvement of the National Olympic Committee (NOC), and finally realizes the breakthrough achievements of global sports competitions.
