Fault Identification in a Gear Box Using Vibration Based Signal Processing

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Gearbox is a very important device facilitating rotational motions in most of the dynamic system and hence must function properly for smooth operations.Gears in the gearbox are used to control the speed and transfer the torque, therefore they are very prone to damage that generates unwanted noise and vibrations in the system. It is very important to know the health status of a gearbox during its operation to avoid untimely failure and hence significant economic losses.Vibration based condition monitoring is one of the oldest method for condition monitoring of any mechanical components in a machine or mechanism. The present work also considers accelerometer signals measured from the housing of a gearbox during its operation and compares it with the vibration signals of healthy gearbox to identify features associated with faults.Sidebands of operating frequency is suggested for fault identification features.
