“Tonight we´ll surely score!”: An exploration of hogging in Spain
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study aims to understand how hogging is discursively constructed by the men who participate in it, focusing on its representation within the Spanish manosphere. Using a qualitative exploratory approach and a Foucauldian feminist discourse analysis, it draws on data from semi-structured interviews with fat women, the Spanish and “invisible” manosphere, and memes related to hogging. The findings show that hogging functions as a means for men to reproduce patriarchal masculinity by targeting fat women, who are perceived as socially deviant. This practice is normalized within male peer groups and framed as a rite of passage that reinforces group cohesion and masculine identity. The research contributes to the literature on gender-based violence by highlighting the need to further investigate underexplored practices such as hogging.
