Association Between Electronic Patient Portal Enrollment and HIV Care Outcomes Among People Living with HIV at an Urban Academic Medical Center

Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Electronic patient portals are associated with improved health outcomes in primary care settings. We assessed the relationship between patient portal enrollment and retention in care and HIV viral suppression in an urban HIV care clinic. In multivariable models, people with HIV with an active portal account had higher odds of HIV viral suppression (Odds Ratio [OR]: 2.02, 95% CI [1.3-3.7]) and higher odds of retention in care (OR: 2.2 95% CI[1.4-3.4]) than those without an active portal account. Our findings suggest that portal enrollment is associated with improved HIV care outcomes among people with HIV.
