Methods of Functional and Planning Organization of Rural Settlement Areas

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The article provides a list of concepts related to the methods of functionalplanning organization of territories for rural settlements. Each of the presented concepts holds potential for further development and deeper investigation. The article aims to highlight the issue of functional-planning organization of territories in rural settlements, presenting and proposing innovative concepts of methods that, when applied in various cases, can improve conditions for territorial organization. The presented methods aim to identify better variations for grouping different types of objects in rural settlements, providing enhanced conditions for their operation and accessibility. This issue becomes relevant due to several differences between rural and urban settlements, which, in turn, complicate the development processes of settlements with small populations when urban-oriented functional-planning methods are applied. It is also a significant concern for rural settlements due to indicators such as decreasing population, which manifest in tendencies of degradation and disappearance. The need to find new functional-planning methods specifically for rural settlements mostly arises from the economic component, which experiences the most considerable decline in these types of settlements. The economic aspect of rural settlements is often accompanied by the development of industrial areas and related facilities, which can provide a significant number of jobs, leading to income generation and financial inflows into the rural settlement’s budget. The proposed concepts are aimed at finding and creating better conditions for economic development, particularly considering ecological and social criteria. The application of innovative functional-planning methods for rural settlements can offer new combinations for the placement of objects, their intended use, conditions for territory exploitation, and industrial activity.
