Project goals and boundaries in environmental design: the matrix for assessing environmental favorability
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The aim of the research is to develop a tool for multifactorial analysis and project goal setting in environmental design, based on characteristics that influence the evaluation of an environment as favorable, comfortable, or developmental, as well as unique or universal, or uncomfortable and unfavorable. The scientific novelty lies in identifying the qualities the simultaneous presence of which is necessary for perceiving an environment as favorable, but their presence can be ensured in various proportions depending on the choice of priorities, which makes it possible to introduce a quantitative criterion when planning design outcomes. A system of conceptual models is proposed, allowing to identify and visualize such qualities and the relationships between them. As a result of the research, the tool “Matrix for Assessing Environmental Favorability” is proposed, which makes it possible to conduct pre-project analysis, plan changes in environmental factors in the process of forming the design concept and setting project goals, and also evaluate the results of project implementation.
