Electrochemical behavior and cytotoxicity evaluation of the Ti-Fe-Cu-Sn alloy
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In this work, studies were carried out on a titanium alloy Ti-Fe-Cu-Sn, which has the potential to replace widely used alloys in human musculoskeletal implants. The study relevance is associated with the need to use fixation systems and implants from new alloys whose mechanical characteristics are not inferior to those widely used, but whose components are less toxic and potentially non-allergic to the human body. It has been established that the candidate alloy with high mechanical properties Ti94Fe1Cu1Sn4 has an increased biocompatibility. In addition, the passive film formed on it has excellent protective ability. This was confirmed by the lower corrosion current density at Ecorr and in the passive state along its entire length, which is due to the inclusion of compounds of alloying elements Sn, Cu, and Fe in its composition. Also, high survival rates were achieved according to the results of our cytotoxicity studies, and the absence of toxic components that can affect the human body significantly reduces allergic reactions of the body.
