Abstract: The article examines the problems of elections to the USSR Academy of Sciences from the anthropological side, that is, from the point of view of the influence of all significant factors on the process of election or non-election for one particular candidate. L. V. Cherepnin became an academician in 1972, having previously survived five unsuccessful attempts to be elected from 1958 to 1966. A review of the history of these ballots will allow us to consider over a fairly wide period of time what factors influenced the election process. This study is particularly relevant in connection with the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as it additionally reveals the issue of replenishing its membership with new members. Preference was also given to considering the figure of L. V. Cherepnin due to the good availability of sources, both clerical, created during the election process in the structure of the USSR Academy of Sciences, and personal origin, reflecting the informal side of the election. These sources allow us to conclude that the positive outcome of the election, in addition to the amount of scientific merit, was influenced by the degree of support for the candidate in the governing organization, membership in a particular scientific community and their opposition to each other, and personal relationships between scientists. It is particularly worth noting the opposition of the scientific community to the order, when the nomination was based on the ideological and political relevance of the candidate's research or for administrative reasons, and as an alternative, Cherepnin, who has many scientific works, was put forward. В статье рассматривается проблематика выборов в Академию наук СССР с антропологической стороны, то есть с точки зрения влияния на процесс избрания или неизбрания всех значимых факторов для одного конкретного кандидата. Л. В. Черепнин станет академиком в 1972 г., пережив перед этим с 1958 по 1966 гг. пять неудачных попыток избрания. Анализ истории данных баллотировок позволит рассмотреть на довольно широком промежутке времени, какие факторы оказывали влияние на процесс выборов. Особую актуальность данное исследование имеет в связи с 300-летием Российской академии наук, так как дополнительно раскрывает вопрос о пополнении ее состава новыми членами. Предпочтение рассмотрению фигуры Л. В. Черепнина отдано также в связи с хорошей обеспеченностью источниками как делопроизводственными, созданными в процессе выборов в структуре Академии наук СССР, так и личного происхождения, отразившими неформальную сторону выборов. Эти источники позволяют сделать выводы о том, что на положительный исход выборов помимо величины научных заслуг играли роль степень поддержки кандидата в направляющей организации, принадлежность к тому или иному научному сообществу и их противостояние друг другу, личные взаимоотношения между учеными. Особо стоит отметить противостояние научного сообщества порядку, когда выдвижение происходило на основе идеологической и политической актуальности исследований кандидата или же по административным соображениям, в качестве альтернативы чему выдвигался Черепнин, обладавший большим числом научных трудов.
