Neuroplasticity and its influence on cognitive adaptation in the elderly: a neurolinguistic approach

Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Systematic Review
Abstract: Background: This study explores how neuroplasticity supports cognitive adaptation in older adults through a neurolinguistic approach. Aim: It aims to examine the effectiveness of language-based activities such as bilingualism, narrative-based interaction, and contextual communication in stimulating neuroplastic changes in the aging brain. Method: Using a qualitative descriptive method in the form of a systematic literature review, the study synthesizes empirical findings from international databases focusing on language learning, brain activation, and digital intervention programs for older populations. Result: The results reveal that linguistic activities activate brain regions such as the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus, enhancing memory, attention, and executive function. Moreover, narrative-based communication strengthens emotional and spiritual engagement, contributing to improved psychological well-being. Conclusion: The study concludes that neurolinguistic interventions, especially when combined with digital technologies, offer adaptive and accessible strategies for cognitive development in later life. These findings are expected to contribute to the design of innovative educational and therapeutic programs that promote healthy aging and cognitive resilience among the elderly.
