Abstract: The Next Frontier in Clinical DiagnosticsThe evolving narrative of clinical diagnostics is no longer confined to conventional biomarkers and standard panels. We now find ourselves in the midst of an omics revolution, and among its most clinically promising branches is metabolomics-the comprehensive profiling of small-molecule metabolites that represent the endpoint of cellular processes.Unlike genomics and proteomics, which indicate genetic potential and protein expression respectively, metabolomics reflects the real-time functional state of cells and tissues. It is, in essence, a biochemical snapshot of health or disease. This real-time responsiveness to internal and external stimuli makes metabolomics especially valuable in early disease detection and patient stratification. A Call to ActionAs clinical biochemists, we must embrace this frontier with both curiosity and criticality. Our unique position-bridging laboratory science with clinical interpretation-makes us ideal stewards of this transition. From guiding sample workflows to validating metabolomic markers in diverse populations, we must lead, not follow, the metabolomics movement.
