Abstract: The family correspondence of the Cluj-based architect Lajos PÁKEI (1853-1921) is only a small fraction of his legacy, extensive both in space and quantity, and only a small part of it can be directly linked to his person. Despite their small number, these written documents point to the main events of his life, and include references to his work, which enrich our knowledge regarding the former chief engineer of Cluj. Therefore, the research on his life has to take into account these documents, and the information contained therein has to be integrated in the larger picture we recall today, on the hundred-seventieth anniversary of his birthday.
