Noise and Vibration reduction on a DI Diesel Engine Blended with Nanoparticles

Year: 2025
Type: preprint
Abstract: The current study focuses on the noise and vibration level produced by a direct injection diesel engine operating on biodiesel (BD20) with dispersed Al 2 O 3 nanoparticles. In this experiment, biodiesel derived from Jatropha seed oil and Al 2 O 3 nanoparticles were employed. Al 2 O 3 nanoparticles were considered as a gasoline additive. The nanoparticle concentration in BD20 was set to 50 and 80 parts per million (ppm), respectively. All fuels were evaluated on a DI diesel engine with a 240-bar injection pressure in order to assess the engine noise and vibration. The nanoparticle additions in BD20 have demonstrated extraordinary performance in noise and vibration control using nano fuel. The BD20 + 80 Al 2 O 3 fuel has the lowest Root Mean Square (RMS) velocity among the remaining fuels.
