Abstract: Mutual Funds have evolved to become a preferred wealth-building option for Indian investors on the account of their professional management, diversification benefits, and accessibility. Among various financial assets management firms, State Bank of India (SBI) Mutual Fund and Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) Mutual Fund hold a strong presence across the Indian market. The present research focuses on assessing the performance differences among specific investment plans offered by mutual funds of SBI and LIC within the duration 2019 to 2024, focusing on risk– return behavior and resilience during economic shocks. Using financial metrics such as standard deviation, beta, and Sharpe ratio, the research evaluates the stability and profitability of equity, debt, and hybrid funds. The findings reveal that SBI funds generally deliver stronger returns with better risk-adjusted performance, while LIC funds demonstrate conservative investment strategies with relatively lower volatility. The study contributes to investor decision-making by highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of both fund houses.
