Abstract: This paper proposes a novel hydrogen fueled compressed air energy storage system integrated with proton exchange membrane electrolyzer cell and proton exchange membrane fuel cell, providing an innovative solution for the sustainable use of renewable energy. The core advantage of the proposed system is high energy efficiency and storage density. During the power valley period, excess electricity is stored by compressing air in the compressed air energy storage system and producing hydrogen through PEM electrolyzer cell. During the power peak period, part of the hydrogen is burned in the hydrogen combustor to increase the inlet gas temperature of turbine in the compressed air energy storage system. The rest is converted into electricity using PEM fuel cell. In this study, thermodynamic and economic models are established to comprehensively analyze the system energy efficiency, exergy efficiency, and economic performance. The thermodynamic analysis results show that under design condition, the proposed system achieves an energy efficiency of 74.26 %, an energy storage density of 9.38 kWh/m 3 , and an exergy efficiency of 67.89 %. The economic analysis results indicate that the proposed system has a payback period of approximately 14.71 years and a net present value of 1.41 M$. Finally, a parametric study is conducted to further evaluate the influence of system performance under various operating conditions.
