Abstract: Hojasen (Flourensia cernua) is distributed in some desert areas of Mexico. Various researchers report its properties as an insecticide, anti-feedant, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-algae, anti-termite, and antiparasitic. They also mention that organic extracts of this plant have been isolated using different methodologies, finding sesquiterpenes, flavonoids, benzofurans, chromenes, coumarins, lupan triterpenes, aliphatic lactones, aromatic and acetylenic compounds in its components. There are reports of its use in agricultural plants and animals of veterinary interest; therefore, this work aims to document the main components of hojasen (Flourensia cernua) and its application in veterinary medicine, for which the extraction and analysis of articles in different search engines such as Journal finder, Author services, Wiley (Journal Finder Beta), Jane, Journal Guide, end note, Journal suggester, Master Journal list, Mendeley and PubMed were performed. The results found that the components depend on the method used, and their application is limited to laboratory animals, non-conventional species, and small ruminants. It is concluded that this work provides a general overview of the components and that these depend on the extraction method. Knowing these characteristics allows for further studies of Flourensia cernua for its use as an alternative medicine in veterinary medicine.
