Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In this research, the objective was to develop reading skills through the use of mobile applications in students in grades 4 and 5 of the Nueva Guatapurí School of the Kankuamo indigenous people. In this approach, the importance of developing reading skills through the use of the Nearpod application was considered, taking into account that currently in Colombian educational institutions it is common to find children with reading and writing difficulties, mainly in those institutions where these competencies are not constantly monitored. Authors such as Pasella and Polo (2016), Médicis (2018), Bautista et al. (2018), among others, served as references for the development of the same content. The methodology was based on a mixed approach, the sample was 28 students of the 70 students who study in the entity, being inhabitants of the Indigenous Community of Guatapurí; who participated in the activities and data collection instruments made up of surveys and interviews. The results showed that more than 60% of the students demonstrated reading skills during the didactic sequence, showing an improvement in their strengthening of the level of reading comprehension after successfully manipulating the Nearpod application with teacher support, assertively answering the questions that arose within said technological resource, motivating students to ask their teachers to continue such interactive activities in virtual environments such as the one carried out in this research. In this way, it was concluded that given the limitations of infrastructure and institutional technological resources to enable computer spaces, students continue to show interest in innovating their learning.
