Complementary approaches to improve cognitive health through prevention in Brazil

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Dementia is one of the most pressing public health challenges of the 21st century, and the projected growth of cases in low- and middle-income countries is expected to outpace that in high-income countries.1 While global estimates, notably those from the Lancet Commission, have helped shape the prevention agenda, country-specific data are essential to guide national priorities.2 Two new studies published in The Lancet Regional Health–Americas make important contributions by estimating the proportion of dementia and cognitive impairment cases in Brazil that could be prevented through modification of risk factors.
