A Dmaic-based Model for Strengthening Industrial Work Culture in Support of the Un Sustainable Development Agenda

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In today’s evolving industrial landscape, sustainable development demands not only technological innovation but also the transformation of organizational culture. This study developed and validated a culturally adaptive model based on the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) framework, aiming to enhance industrial work culture in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). Employing a developmental-descriptive design within a mixed-methods framework, data were gathered from 120 participants across manufacturing and industrial organizations in the Philippines through surveys, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews. Quantitative findings were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, while qualitative data underwent thematic analysis. Results revealed strengths in communication and work ethics, alongside weaknesses in accountability and policy enforcement. The adapted DMAIC model, validated by experts and pilot-tested in selected sites, incorporated behavioral KPIs, attitude-feedback loops, and cultural sensitivity markers. Post-implementation data indicated statistically significant improvements in employee engagement, work discipline, and operational alignment with sustainability goals. The study concludes that integrating behavioral strategies into process improvement frameworks can drive both performance excellence and sustainable industrial culture.
