Type: article
Abstract: The purpose of the study is a comprehensive analysis of the equipment used by wrestlers, as well as the grappling techniques in Yakut traditional wrestling from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Research methods and organization include the analysis of primary sources such as ethnographic studies, photographs, and documentary evidence, as well as the organization of material in chronological order to identify the evolution of Yakut wrestling. Some sources are published for the first time. Research results and conclusions indicate that, based on the examined photographs, the following elements can be identified in Yakut wrestling: special natazniki and possibly coverings, grips for the natazniki, leg grips, active grips, and training from childhood. This article may serve as one of the catalysts for the revival of Yakut wrestling.
