Surgical Management of an Extracranial Internal Carotid Artery Aneurysm

Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Aneurysms of the extracranial internal carotid artery are rare, but pose a serious threat due to the high risk of ischemic stroke and associated neurological complications. This article describes a clinical case of a patient with connective tissue dysplasia who was diagnosed with a saccular aneurysm of the left internal carotid artery. Resection of the aneurysm with the formation of an end-to-end anastomosis without the use of a vascular prosthesis was performed. No complications were noted in the postoperative period. A follow-up examination after 6 months confirmed the patency of the reconstructed vessels. Timely diagnosis and surgical treatment are crucial for the prevention of neurological complications and mortality.
