Abstract: This article presents the results of a Master's research project defended in the Postgraduate Program in Teaching and History of Science and Mathematics at the Federal University of ABC, written by the first author and supervised by the second author. Its objective was to investigate, from the perspective of the Theory of the Three Worlds of Mathematics, the learning of the concept of percentage by deaf students and to verify whether the use of certain teaching materials could help in this process. To this end, a mapping of the Conceptual Image of percentage and a sequence of activities using teaching materials were developed for two ninth-grade classes of Elementary School at a bilingual school for the deaf in the city of São Paulo. It was found that the sequence of activities enabled the intersection between the Worlds, better developing the Symbolic Embodied World and valuing the Embodied Conceptual World. The use of the Theory of the Three Worlds of Mathematics, with the use of teaching materials, allowed the analysis of the mathematical knowledge of each student and the development of the elements missing in their Conceptual Image.
