Genetic Impacts on the Structure and Mechanics of Cellulose Made by Bacteria (Adv. Sci. 33/2025)

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Cellulose Made by Bacteria Scanning electron micrograph of cellulose made by evolved bacteria, highlighting ribbon-like structures that self-organize into circular patterns within the fiber network. The hierarchical arrangement of thicker ribbons within a network of thinner fibers illustrates the potential of the evolved strain in generating cellulose architectures with enhanced mechanical properties combined with high surface area and fluid permeability.
