Influence of Delayed Coking Recirculation Coefficient on Product Yield

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The problem of increasing the refining efficiency requires the rational use of the available resources at the enterprise. In this paper, the delayed coking process is considered as a key process for heavy oil residues refining. An assessment of possible methods for improving the coking process is carried out, according to which a promising development is the study of the effect of the recirculation coefficient. Work to assess the recycling effect on the material balance was carried out. A feature of the study is the use of equilibrium сondensed mixture. Recirculating flows of heavy coking gasoil and bottoms residue were used for the analysis. The analysis of the feedstock components taken for the work was carried out according to the initial physicochemical characteristics. Material balances of coking for tar, bottoms residue, heavy coking gas oil, and for their mixtures with the corresponding recirculation coefficients were compiled. The results showed that an increase in the recirculation coefficient in both cases leads to an increase in the all product yields, due to a decrease in the heavy gas oil yield. The data obtained allow us to predict the change in coking material balances when changing the recycling and to reasonably approach the choice of the recirculate composition due to the direction of use of the delayed coking units, or to obtain the maximum amount of coking distillates or coke.
