Abstract: The MediumIn July of 2014, the Library Publishing Coalition (LPC) officially launched as a membership community of libraries engaged in scholarly publishing. The launch was the result of 61 academic libraries providing seed funding and volunteer hours to address an unmet need in the field -the need for greater communication and alignment between publishing programs.During our 2023-24 program year, LPC celebrated our 10th anniversary. We took the opportunity to reflect on how the field has evolved since our seed-funded project period. When the CSLP editor invited me to contribute a piece inspired by LPC's anniversary reflections, I had intended to write about LPC's founding and development as a case study of community formation in support of library activities. That story, however, has already been told-most effectively by Katherine Skinner in her opening keynote at the 2024 Library Publishing Forum. The bookend to this keynote was a closing discussion session on future directions, from which we identified some specific areas of focus for the community going forward. Those two pieces, along with LPC's Community Plan (PDF), give a solid picture of where we've been and where we intend to go.I'm more interested, in this space, in thinking about the mechanics of interdependence that underlie all of our work.
