Focalização oscilante n’Os Maias: uma abordagem a partir dos estudos narrativos atuais

Abstract: In celebration of Eça de Queirós' 180th birthday, this paper proposes an analysis of the oscillation of perspectives in the novel Os Maias (1888) starting from a critical-theoretical work that celebrates its 50th anniversary, the thesis Estatuto e perspectivas do narrador na ficção de Eça de Queirós, by Carlos Reis. Based on concepts from current narrative studies, more specifically those pointed out by Mieke Bal (2021) and Manfred Jahn (1999), the aim is to demonstrate the functionality and complexity of the focalization dynamics present in Os Maias, as well as its contribution to the Queiros’s improvement of the aesthetic form and ideology.
