The effects of intravascular Laser Irradiation of Blood (ILIB) on pain and sleep in fibromyalgia: a case report and review of the literature
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Fibromyalgia (FM) is defined by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by sleep disturbances. The effectiveness of treatments for FM has been limited. Intravascular Laser Irradiation of Blood (ILIB) has emerged as a viable therapy to relieve pain and improve sleep quality. Unfortunately, ILIB therapy remains underexplored in FM. Our study reports, for the first time, a case report in which ILIB therapy alone reduced pain and improved sleep in a woman with FM. A systematic search of the PUBMED, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, Scielo, and Lilacs databases did not find any studies using ILIB alone in FM, and only four studies examined this therapy in conjunction with pharmacological or non-pharmacological treatment in patients with FM. We anticipate that these findings will encourage researchers to conduct randomized controlled clinical trials on ILIB therapy in patients with FM.
