Abstract: The growing demand for energy storage technologies has developed due to the ever-increasing developments in personal electronics, electric vehicles, and renewable energy sources. Of the many energy storage technologies, supercapacitors that are enhanced with nanomaterials show great potential in lab settings. The purpose of this review is to briefly describe how these nanotechnology-enhanced supercapacitors work, their benefits, and their challenges for scaling up. Of the potential benefits that nanomaterials have on supercapacitors, the two most crucial are the increase in energy storage capacity and the improvement in power delivery. These improvements come directly from the high surface area, better conductivity, and tunable properties of nanomaterials. Despite this, there are downsides that include control over material properties, environmental concerns, and production costs. Many factors during the fabrication process of these supercapacitors directly affect the environmental impact and cost. With a deeper understanding of these limitations, along with continued research, nanotechnology-enhanced supercapacitors will eventually play a major role in supplementing consumer and industrial electronics.
