Abstract: Nowadays, the research about 3D visualization technology application has become hot topic in construction industry research field. By making 3D models and creating data, the building structure and environment information can be shown more directly, which gives scientific support for later project planning, design changes and construction management. BIM technology is especially widely used, and its application way in big irregular steel structure projects is very worth studying and exploring. Using BIM for collision check, visualization and data calculation can make complex geometries in construction be observed directly and information exchange more efficient, improving construction cooperation efficiency and reducing resource waste. So, taking BIM technology as starting point, the study of 3D visualization technology not only can improve construction project's intelligent level and systematic management, but also can explore future development direction of big irregular steel structure building projects in many aspects like design, construction and audit.
