Influence of Stepped Support on Older Adults’ Engagement with and Outcomes from an Internet Insomnia Intervention
Year: 2025
Type: preprint
Study designs: Randomized Controlled Trial, Clinical Trial
Abstract: This randomized trial tested whether stepped human support improves engagement and outcomes in older adults (age ≥55) using a fully-automated online insomnia intervention. Among 207 older adults with insomnia, stepped support was rarely activated and did not enhance engagement or outcomes. Most participants engaged with the program independently with strong treatment outcomes, suggesting that well-designed digital interventions can meet behavioral health needs in older adults without requiring additional human support.
