Abstract: Objective: To determine the awareness and beliefs regarding acute coronary syndrome (ACS) among patients presenting at a tertiary care Hospital. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted over a period of six months, from November 2023 to May 2024. Patients aged 18 to 70 years presenting with ACS who were hemodynamically stable and able to recall the onset of symptoms were included. After a detailed clinical assessment and initiation of standard treatment for ACS, eligible patients were provided with the modified Acute Coronary Syndrome Response Index (ACSRI) questionnaire to assess the awareness. Scores were calculated based on their responses and the collected data were then subjected to statistical analysis using SPSS version 25.0. Results: Mean age of the patients was 49 ± 8 years. Overall awareness mean score on the knowledge subscale was 12 ± 3.53, mean score of attitude was 11±3.24, reflecting a generally (neutral to slightly positive) toward seeking timely medical management. Out of all 43.8% cases showed appropriate knowledge related to ACS, including symptom recognition and urgency of medical response. Additionally, a positive attitude toward seeking care was observed in 47.9% of cases, while 44.7% held favorable beliefs according to the belief dimension. Furthermore, the knowledge, attitude, and beliefs were more favorable in patients aged 31–50 years, males, and those with higher education, while statistically insignificant (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Patient awareness and beliefs regarding ACS were moderate, with less than half demonstrating adequate knowledge, positive attitudes, and favorable beliefs, indicating a need for improved educational efforts to enhance public understanding and timely response to ACS symptoms, ultimately aiming to reduce associated health risks and improve outcomes.
