Bicortical Screw-Based Dental Implants in a Diabetic Patient: A Case Report with Literature Review

Year: 2025

Abstract: A bstract Dental bicortical screw-based implants are increasingly recognized as a reliable treatment option, particularly in medically compromised patients. Their relevance is heightened in individuals with diabetes mellitus, where conventional implants are often contraindicated due to elevated infection risk and higher failure rates. We present the case of a female patient with diabetes who lost her maxillary anterior teeth following trauma. Rehabilitation was achieved using basal implantology with a fixed prosthesis. Remarkably, despite the diabetic profile, the patient demonstrated successful osseointegration and stability without complications at 12-month follow-up. This case highlights the potential of bicortical screw-based implants as a viable modality in diabetic patients when systemic conditions are carefully evaluated. A targeted literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar using keywords “basal implants,” “bicortical screw implants,” “diabetes mellitus,” and “dental implant rehabilitation,” with additional references identified from cited bibliographies.
