Abstract: This article traces the challenges and ironies of Nikki Haley’s embrace of militarizing whiteness as a perceived necessary condition for her political career advancement. It links this embrace to the British colonial conception of ‘martial races’, while briefly contrasting the aggression and violence it presupposes with Sikh self-understanding about which Haley seems deeply ambivalent.
