Abstract: Numerous studies in the design of controllers to regulate the angular speed of DC motors driven by DC-DC converters have appeared in the control literature. the majority of the proposed controllers require 5 sensors for their implementations that include two mechanical sensors for the load torque and the speed of the motor. A Luenberger-type observer is developed to accurately estimate the boost inductor current, the load torque, the angular velocity of the motor and if needed the input voltage to the boost converter. A linear sliding surface is used to derive a controller that is simple in its design and yet exhibits excellent features in terms of speed regulation and robustness to parasitics and parameter uncertainties of the boost/motor system. The robustness and effectiveness of the controller is validated by computer simulations.
