Abstract: Intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy (IPTp) with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP) is a chemoprevention strategy against malaria in pregnancy. A recent PLOS Medicine study highlights the need for better understanding of the mechanism by which IPTp-SP reduces low birthweight, as well as novel measures to prevent malaria earlier in gestation.
