Becoming an Educational Assistant With Disabilities—We Can Learn From Everybody Involved

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Summary The BLuE programme is an inclusive university programme. Students with disabilities can study at the Salzburg University of Education. Students with disabilities in the BLuE programme can become educational assistants. Our study wants to answer this question: How can we help students with disabilities become successful educational assistants? Internships are important. They are important for the students to practice being an educational assistant. They are important for staff at the school to find out more about the tasks an assistant can do. Students and staff need support and structures to make sure the internship goes well. Educational assistants can do many tasks. They support teachers and children. Austria will need to change the laws. The laws make it difficult for people with disabilities to work in education. People with disabilities need to have the right to equal access to education and training. They need to have an equal chance to work in education.
