Isolated laryngeal amyloidosis in a child: A rare case report

Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Background Laryngeal amyloidosis is a rare cause of hoarseness, particularly in pediatric patients. While more commonly seen in adults, isolated laryngeal involvement without systemic disease is exceedingly rare in children. Case presentation We report a case of a 10-year-old female who presented with a six-month history of progressive dysphonia. Laryngoscopic examination revealed suspicious lesions, and biopsy confirmed amyloid deposition. Systemic workup by pediatric rheumatology was unremarkable, confirming a diagnosis of isolated laryngeal amyloidosis. The patient underwent surgical intervention for symptom relief and was scheduled for regular follow-up due to the potential for recurrence. Conclusion Isolated laryngeal amyloidosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of persistent dysphonia in children. Early recognition and biopsy are crucial for diagnosis, and long-term follow-up is recommended given the potential for recurrence.
