Abstract: This article develops three fundamental themes for an approach to digital platforms, based on the contribution of the Political Economy of Communication developed in Brazil: i) the definition of platformization and digital platforms in relation to capitalist transformations; ii) the reconfiguration of international relations in the platform economy; and iii) the different empirical manifestations of the phenomenon, which are organized into a specific taxonomy. It proposes an understanding of platformization as a form of concentration of social production and of digital platforms as structures for aggregating different agents and their productions, which constitute a new structure of social mediation, the result of US efforts to regain its hegemony.
