Degradation of Indigo Blue dye in wastewater by green synthesized Ni-Zn oxide nanohybrid: An environmental remediation approach
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In the current work, green NiO-ZnO nanomaterial is fabricated as a catalyst using aqueous extract of Musa balbisiana fruit peels through sol-gel method. The synthesized catalyst is characterized by various spectro-analytical techniques. XRD peaks formed at 39.2° (101), 47.9 (102), and 65.9° (103) are the indicators for the formation of nanocatalyst. Maximum absorption was also carried and found that nanohybrid showed ʎ max = 387 nm. The size of green synthesized NiO-ZnO nanohybrid is measured by Debye Scherer equation and found in the range of 60-70 nm. Further SEM image illustrate the uniform distribution on the irregular substrate ensures the availability of active surfaces for the dye degradation. The formulated nanomaterial is utilized to decolorization of Indigo Blue (IB) dye in the wastewater stream. More than 80% of dye is decolorized by green nanocatalyst as indicated by its percent dye degradation (PDD). Meanwhile, kinetics for the decolorization of dye is calculated using linear data fitting statistical model and is found to follow 1 st order kinetics as depicted with highest R 2 (0.9579). The efficiency of NiO-ZnO nanohybrid catalyst for Indigo Blue dye decolorization is obtained greater as compared to individual efficiency of NiO and ZnO nanoparticles. Meanwhile dye was significantly associated with the preservation of the water quality that increases the demand in the color printing.
