Abstract: Although asthma deaths decrease with the dissemination and implementation of GINA guidelines advocating for ICS-containing regimen, long term outcomes of severe asthma are still hallmarked by impaired quality of life attributable not only to persistent daily symptoms and impaired lung function but mostly to recurrent exacerbations.1 Asthma exacerbations are now recognized as the primary outcome of most phase III pivotal trials dedicated to assess the benefits of new drugs in development. They are now better understood as the consequence of mostly virally-triggered infections leading to exaggerated and inappropriate type 2 inflammation and excessive airway bronchoconstriction.
