Targeting microRNA-132 protects against kidney fibrosis and restricts myofibroblast differentiation from cells of renin lineage
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study demonstrates that cells of renin lineage (CoRL) directly contribute to the myofibroblast pool in two distinct models of kidney injury. Silencing of microRNA-132 reduces kidney fibrosis, preserves podocyte number, and attenuates myofibroblast proliferation, including those derived from CoRL. These findings highlight miR-132 as a promising target to curb fibrotic remodeling while preserving renal structure and uncover new insights into the dual regenerative and profibrotic plasticity of CoRL.
