Complete Genome Sequence of an ST32 Salmonella Infantis Carrying a pESI-Like Plasmid Isolated from a Poultry Farm

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Salmonella enterica serovar Infantis has recently emerged as a dominant serotype in poultry farms and is frequently associated with multidrug resistance (MDR) [1][2][3].The widespread dissemination of MDR S. Infantis poses a significant public health threat due to its potential for zoonotic transmission from poultry to humans.Notably, S. Infantis has been known to harbor a large plasmid, the plasmid of emerging S. Infantis (pESI), which carries the extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) gene bla CTX-M , as well as other antimicrobial resistance (AMR) determinants [4,5].In this study, we report the complete genome sequence of an S. Infantis strain, SL-102, isolated from a healthy broiler in South Korea.S. Infantis SL-102 was isolatedfrom intestinal contents of a broiler at a poultry farm in Naju, Jeolla-do, South Korea in 2024.Genomic DNA was prepared using a Genmed DNA Extraction Kit according to the manu-Salmonella Infantis has emerged as a predominant Salmonella serotype in poultry farms worldwide. Thus, S. Infantis has frequently been associated with human salmonellosis cases. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of a sequence type 32 Salmonella enterica subsp.enterica serovar Infantis strain SL-102, isolated from a broiler at a poultry farm in South Korea. The genome consists of a 4,687,013-bp circular chromosome and a 318,579-bp pESI-like plasmid carrying the extended-spectrum β-lactamase gene bla CTX-M-65 .
